Collingwood School Covenant signing

Collingwood School have made a commitment to support the Armed Forces and their community by signing their Covenant. As one part of this support the school will also be fundraising over the year for SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity.

Lieutenant Colonel Simon Barnes – father to a current Collingwood pupil – represented the Ministry of Defence as the Covenant was signed. The school are proud to be leading the way in making this pledge to publically support the Armed Forces community and hope other local schools will follow suit.

Army Veteran, Colonel Bob Crawley, of the Surrey branch of SSAFA, visited the school to talk about the important work of this charity – whose mission is to ‘relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity’.

Mr Leigh Hardie, Headmaster of Collingwood School, is very keen to for the school to be involved with this worthy cause, ‘Our school runs its own special ‘Collingwood Way Award’ for our older pupils and encourages them to plan and run their own charity fundraising programmes. The Year 6 boys and girls are already thinking of ways in which they can organise events in aid of this great charity. This year, with the centenary commemorations of the World War I Armistice, the pupils have been spending time thinking about the bravery and sacrifices of our armed services. This charity support, along with the Covenant signing, shows what a committed school we have and our fantastic pupils will be leading the way.’
